GILLESPIE PARK ECOLOGY CENTRE KITCHEN
Client: Gillespie Park Ecology Centre and Islington Council.
Designed and Completed with Nikki Blustin.
Brief: To refurbish the existing kitchen using recycled materials to provide a functional kitchen for the centre as well as a showcase educational tool for the community.
Method: Recycled or sustainable materials were used throughout: worktops were made from recycled plastic destined for landfill and FSC rated oak. Cupboard doors were plastic from recycled vending machine coffee cups. The floor was a recycled cork and rubber blend and the splash back tiles were made from recycled glass. All of the appliances were the most energy efficient available, and the lighting was low energy. Graphic boards provided information about the materials used and suggested energy saving tips.
Completion date: August 2006.
