Working within an existing architectural build, with the design contained to interior furnishings, fixtures, and finishes, we jumped on the project to get the Unfurl Collection ready for incoming guests.
We started by developing key concepts for the space, to zone and begin to identify opportunity to reflect the different elements of the landscape through colours, textures, patterns and sensory elements.
On our site visit, we captured images of mosses, pine leaves & cones, rock, bark, earth and sky so that we could do justice to the complex spectrum of visual richness that the forest offers to visitors.
Our collaboration with Oliver Heath Design was a natural fit, and it’s been fascinating to watch the team bring their vision to life. The design they’ve crafted evokes a sense of calm, seamlessly integrating with the local ecology, and offering guests a truly immersive experience—one that is inextricably linked to Glentress Forest.Gemma Chance Head of Brand Purpose and Guest Experience
We wanted to give the different spaces within the cabin clear identities, to offer a diverse spatial experience that would cater to a range of users and uses.
Selecting colours which reflected elements of the surrounding natural environment, we were able to create unique identities for each room. To introduce ecologically appropriate natural materials, we cladded walls in redwood timber; mirroring the verticals found in the surrounding views of the forest.
From these more macro additions, we also homed in on the small touches; from knurled door handles and stone carved basins to a diversity of lighting and dimmer switches to allowing for choice and control.
Evolving our cabin design to create a bespoke interior with direct influence from its surroundings was core to the project. We wanted to create a space that not only enhances the connection between guests and nature, but also brings the essence of our brand, ‘Forest Feeling’, into the fabric of the cabin.Gemma Chance Head of Brand Purpose and Guest Experience
The result is something that successfully mirrors the outside landscape, while remaining a cosy refuge from the often-unruly Scottish weather – a space to unfurl.
The cabins feel both consciously designed and aesthetically appealing, while remaining comfortable and practical from a maintenance perspective. The end design is reflective of Forest Holiday’s unique proposition and is a testament to the effectiveness of biophilic design at all scales.
